Blake Lively started acting at age 11, when she played a 'bit part' in the 1998 movie Sandman. Her first major role in a film happened in the movie adaptation of the novel The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants. In that year's Teen Choice Award, Lively was nominated for 'Choice Movie Breakout: Female' for playing Bridget in the said film. Although Lively has played several movie roles, her biggest break happened in 2007 when she was cast as Serena van der Woodsen in the CW's teen drama Gossip Girl. In 2009, Lively's acting was praised when she played a supporting role in The Private Lives of Pippa Lee.
