It was at the age of five when Anna Kournikova started to show interest in playing tennis. By the early age of 14, she was already competing in the professional scene, the Fed Cup for Russia. With that, she also took a step towards making history for being the youngest player to win the said tournament.
In 1998, Kournikova's fame started to push through as she made a mark by being the first Russian female to reach the top 10 of the singles ranking since 1976. The next year, her move to fame continued as she and Martina Hingris took home the Grand Slam Doubles title. Due to numerous contracts with companies who want to have her side by side with their products, 26-year-old Kournikova happens to be one of the richest women in the field of sports today. Some people even say that she is the most popular athlete on the Internet, pushing the basketball superstar Michael Jordan down to second place.
