Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek Jimenez is the real name of the Academy Award-winning actress Salma Hayek. She was born on September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. She was 24 years old when she decided to head straight to Hollywood and pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Little by little, she gradually brought her dreams to reality. Her break was given to her by Robert Rodriguez in 1995 when she was asked to play a role with Antonio Banderas in the movie Desperado.

One of the greatest prides of her career is her film Frida, which features the life of Mexican surrealist painter Frida Kahlo. The movie was nominated for six categories, counting the best actress category, in the Oscar Awards. Though they were only able to take home the trophies for the best original score and best make-up, she carried with her the honor of being the first Latina to be nominated best actress in the Oscars. She is currently the producer of hit TV show Ugly Betty.
